Hi Club Members,
We had our first club meeting for the spring semester January 31st, and
we covered quite a few things.
First, for those that don’t know me, I’m Buffy, the new club
Secretary. Franzi, our last Secretary, has graduated, and I’ll be
attempting to fill her very capable shoes. In addition to the opening
that Franzi left, we had our regular elections.
Here’s the new breakdown of officers:
Mike Stadther: President
Matt Mattefs: Vice President
Buffy Naillon: Secretary
The Treasurer’s spot is still open. Come ask about it, get elected,
and join a great club! Contact an officer for more details.

We voted on a new logo and will be seeing it appearing on banners, club
communications, etc. Look for us and our new brand on campus!
We have a number of fun events planned for the upcoming semester.
In February there will be a Kaffee Klatsch at a local coffee and book
shop. We’ll be gathering to drink some coffee and talk about some
books by German authors (and whatever else strikes our fancy). We’ll
be sending an exact date when we have it.
For all of you who have fond memories of Stammtisch, March will be the
month for that. Stay tuned for upcoming details. If you have
suggestions
for a restaurant or other pertinent info, please feel free to submit it
or bring it to the next meeting.
In April we’re planning on watching “Clockwork Orange” in German,
of course. This is a special club event, but don’t forgot, you always
have the option of seeing great German films every Thursday night with
the German film class. Ask Beret for more details about the films
she’ll show in her Thursday night class this semester.

In May, as we have for the last several years, we’ll gather our best
recipes and comfy chairs for the Mother’s Day picnic. While it’s
dumping a ton of snow on us, think of this day fondly. It’ll get you
through. More details to come. (Not about when the snow is leaving--no
one can know that; when we're going to have the picnic.)
Other club news:
Have you noticed that there’s really no place to sit on campus? Well,
our VP Matt did, too and suggested that as part of our club service
project that we should build some benches so that all can enjoy the
sun—when it finally appears. Mike is checking on the details and
getting the final approval for the project. When we get the
“go-ahead”, we’ll be sending everyone an email. Everyone is
welcome to help with construction. To ask questions, contact Mike or
Matt.

Lastly, we have a podcast and a website. The podcast is to highlight
all things German, including students who are studying German. It’s a
30 minute show once a month. It features 6 five minute segments,
including the host intro for each. If you have a report about something
in German culture that's due for a class or know someone who is a
German
transplant or have been to Germany or know something about German
art…You get the picture. All ideas are welcome, and I’ll help you
produce them. The first two shows are online now. The format is
slightly
different, but you can hear them to get an idea of how broad our range
of topics is. One of them gives some great info for all of you who are
considering studying abroad and how you can find money to do so. The
other features an interview with club Prez Mike about his
archaeological
dig in Germany. Photos included!

Also, Matt has put together a club website. Club members can go to find
out about club news. We’ll post club notes online, pictures of events
and students abroad, and anything else that is pertinent to the club.
The details are being hammered out, so please contact Matt for more
info.

That’s it! It’s going to be a great semester. Contact me if you
need anything.
Tschüss meinen Freunden,
Buffy Naillon
German Club Secretary
(TBA).
